Do you know what was popular in 2020 other than sourdough? Tie-dye everything... So I decided the apply some tie-dye icing on my butter cookies this year!
Makes 12-14
Ingredients
85 gr (6 tbsp) unsalted butter, room temp
40 gr (1/3 cup) sugar
1/2 large egg
Pinch of salt
5 gr (1 tsp) vanilla extract
125 gr (1 cup) flour
For the icing;
50 gr (1/2 cup) powdered sugar
60 ml (4 tbsp) milk
Pinch of salt
Gel food coloring
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar for 3 minutes with a spatula or a hand mixer. Add egg, salt, vanilla extract, and shift the flour. Combine everything until a dough forms. Chill the in the fridge for 30 minutes.
2. Generously flour a clean surface and a rolling pin. Roll the dough to a round shape with 6 mm (1/4 inch) thickness. Cut shapes with the desired cookie cutter. Transfer cookie doughs to a baking sheet with parchment paper on it and chill in the fridge for 15 minutes.
3. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F.
4. Bake cookies for 10-12 minutes and leave them to completely cool.
5. For the icing; in a small bowl beat powdered sugar, milk, and salt. Divide 1/3 of icing into another small bowl and add preferred gel food coloring. Spread some white icing to a small plate and drizzle some colored icing. With a toothpick, swirl colored icing into the white icing. Dip the cookie to the icing, lift and let it set. Continue with all cookies. Once set, you can pipe designs with the remaining icing. Enjoy!
